Process comprises partial coating of outer and inner surfaces of hollow cylindrical components with one or two open ends, with metal and metal alloys. The upright, cathodically connected components (2) attached to a carrier (1) are brought into contact with an electrically non-contacting absorptive electrolyte carrier connected to an anode. The components are pressed against an elastically deformable electrolyte carrier (3) supplied continuously with the electrolyte (5), and are stepwise moved on the electrolyte carrier. The pressure and rate of electrolyte supply are chosen so that indentations filled with electrolyte in the electrolyte carrier are sufficiently deep to wet the components up a predetermined height.
