Travelling grate for processing, e.g., cooling using gas, solids

A travelling grate treats material carried in a layer, by passing a gas (6) transversely through it. An open grate surface (3) passes the flow. At the end, material drops off, down the chute (7) to a main conveyor (8). In the grate basement (9), walls (10, 10a, 10b) divide successive chambers (11, 11a, 11b) having basal construction (12) accepting fines falling through the grate. These chambers are pressurised by the gas flow. A common conveyor (13) collects fines, passing through seals (19, 20, 21) in the chamber walls, to the discharge (22). The construction is improved, allowing good sealing and reliability.
