This invention relates to an ethylene oxide catalyst which contains, prior to the catalyst's first use in the conversion of ethylene to ethylene oxide, silver, one or more alkali metal promoters and 0.4 x 10<-3> to 4.0 x 10<-3> moles of chloride per mole of silver deposited on an alpha alumina carrier. The catalyst provides for an improved start-up when started up in the presence of ethylene oxide, oxygen and chlorohydrocarbon moderator. |
