The tester has a central safety transformer (1) by which a measurement voltage is fed to a lightning conductor measurement point using a single wire cable (5), so that a test current flows through a test clamp (2) attached to the conductor (10). The test current is divided into a subcurrent that passes directly to earth (18) and a subcurrent that flows through the conductor to a roof cable and thence to further conductors connected to earth.
