PURPOSE: To obtain an inorganic fiber having TiC and boron carbide in the particle boundary phase of sintered β-SiC crystal having a specific crystal particle diameter, high in strength and elastic modulus, having larger breaking deformation than that of the ceramic matrix, and useful as a reinforcing fiber. CONSTITUTION: An inorganic fiber in which TiC and B6-x ((x) is a number of <6) exist in the particle boundary phases of sintered β-SiC crystals having a crystal particle diameter of <=50nm and which is also excellent in oxidation resistance. This inorganic fiber is obtained by thermally reacting 100 pts.wt. of a polysilane (or its thermal reaction product) with 5-15 pts.wt. of a phenyl group-polymer (composed from a carbosilane structure and a siloxane structure, and containing boron in an amount of 0.05-0.3wt.% in terms of boron atom) with a titanium (IV) tetraalkoxide, melt-spinning the produced polytitanocarbosilane, converting the spun fiber into the infusing fiber, and subsequently treating the treated fiber at 1700-2000 deg.C. The produced inorganic fiber has a sufficient large breaking distortion at the level of 1%. |
