PURPOSE: To obtain an antitumor substance BE-48021 useful for a remedy of cancer because of strongly suppressing propagation of cancer cell. CONSTITUTION: The subject compound expressed by the formula is obtained by culturing a microorganism belonging to genus Streptomyces or its variant (preferably Streptomyces sp-A48201) varied with a treatment by a mutagen such as N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine or a method such as a contact with a phage at 23-31 deg.C for 72-120hrs. in a shake-culturing method or a deep aeration stirring cultivation method in a medium containing a nutrient such as grape sugar or soybean meal and separating from its culture filtrate and fungi in a solvent extraction or an ion exchange resin method. In the process, pH of the culturing medium is preferably 4-8.
