PURPOSE: To provide a novel polypeptide which is produced by mouse marrow stroma cells, has a specific amino acid sequence, and is useful as a medicine because the peptide shows biological activities relating to the growth of hematopoietic cells, immune functions, tumor proliferation, inflammation, bone metabolism and so on. CONSTITUTION: This novel peptide is produced by mouse marrow stroma cells and substantially pure, having an amino acid sequence given by formula I or formula II with 281 amino acid units, and its homologs, their fragments and their homologs are also included in this prevention. Since it has biological activities relating to differentiation, proliferation, growth and survival retention of hematopoietic cells, to immune functions, proliferation, growth or inflammation of tumors, bone metabolism, this peptide is useful for prophylaxis and treatment for anomaly in hemopoietic cells and nerve system functions, inflammatory diseases, reduction in immune cells, infections, cancers, leukemia, AIDS and anomaly in bone metabolism, and tissue repair.
