PURPOSE: To produce a flexible nonwoven fabric, rich in air permeability and light screening properties and excellent in mechanical characteristics by carrying out the high-pressure fluid treatment of a staple fiber web in plural stages on perforated supporting plates of different meshes and applying a zebraic pattern thereto. CONSTITUTION: The high-pressure fluid treatment of a web comprising polyester staple fibers is carried out on a fine perforated supporting plate of >=50 mesh and the high- pressure fluid treatment thereof is then performed on a coarse perforated supporting plate of <=25 mesh to apply a zebraic pattern having regions A, comprising formed open pores of a small area having <=17×10<-2> mm<2> X, >=350 open pores/cm<2> Y and 30-60% Z in the formula of open pore area X (mm<2> ) × open pore arrangement density Y (open pores/cm<2> ) = open pore area ratio Z (%) and three-dimensionally interlaced interstices among fibers in unopened pore parts and alternately existing with regions B comprising formed open pores of a large area having >=30×10<-2> mm<2> X, <=100 open pores/cm<2> Y and 30-70% Z in the formula and three-dimensionally interlaced interstices among the fibers at a higher level than that in the regions A in the unopened pore parts at (10-1000)/(10-100) arrangement interval A/B (mm) thereof. |
