PURPOSE: To prevent the lowering of printing quality by always ensuring the opposed relation between printing pins and holes even when the drive cycle of printing hammers is increased by providing the holes opposed to the printing pins of a ribbon separator so as to shift the same with respect to the centers of the printing pins in a dot line printer. CONSTITUTION: The positions of the hole of the ribbon separator of a central part are shifted byΔL from the positions of printing pins 6 toward the downstream side in a paper feed direction. Therefore, an ink ribbon 8 sags downwardly by the resistance of the printing pins 6 during printing caused by the running of the ink ribbon 8 and, even when the separator 9 being in contact with the ribbon 8 is together lowered by the sagging of the ribbon 8, since the positions of holes are preliminarily shifted byΔL from those of the printing pins 6 in expectation of this phenomenon, core shift does no become much. When the ribbon 8 is raised by the resistance of the printing pins 6 during printing caused by the running of the ribbon 8 and the separator 9 being in contact with the ribbon 8 is together raised, the hole positions of the separator 9 at a central part are shifted byΔL from the positions of the printing pins 6 toward the upstream side of the feed direction to prevent core shift.
