PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of luminosity measured/range found results and handleability by providing a division photometry means for luminosity- measuring an object field for respective plural photometry areas, a decision means for deciding the luminance distribution of the object field and a change means for changing the plural photometry areas based on the decided luminance distribution. SOLUTION: A CCD is made to form an object image and image data from pixels are sampled. An MPU adds the image data for the respective photometry areas and obtains five photometric values. In this case, in the case that a value for which the photometric values of the areas A1 and A2 are added is larger than the value for which the photometric values of the areas A3 and A4 are added, it is considered that a side where the areas A1 and A2 are present is the sky or a ceiling with a light source. In such a case, it is presumed that a main object whose exposure is to be made most appropriate is present on the side of the areas A3 and A4. Then, the MPU changes the height of the vertically arranged areas A1 and A3 and A2 and A4 so as to be 2:1 for instance.
