PURPOSE: To obtain a nonsilica ceramic material which is inexpensive and excellent in thermal shock resistance and can be used at high temp. CONSTITUTION: This alumina-base sintered body is produced in such a manner that aluminum nitride and/or aluminum oxide nitride is dispersed in an aggregated state in the sintered body and that the alumina phase and the aluminum nitride or aluminum oxide nitride phase are separately present. Since coeffts. of thermal expansion of these crystal phases differ from each other, when the sintered body is rapidly heated or cooled, mismatching is caused on the interfaces of the aggregated grains of both phases to relax the thermal stress produced in the body. Propagation of cracks produced in the sintered body is prevented on the interfaces of the aggregated grains. Thus, the alumina-base sintered body containing no silica component which is more inexpensive than aluminum nitride and has excellent thermal shock resistance compared to alumina or aluminum nitride can be obtd. |
