PURPOSE: To suppress mercury missing by sintering a mixture of plural oxides including mercury oxide in an atmosphere of an oxygen partial pressure more than a specified pressure. CONSTITUTION: The mercury oxide powder such as HgO and other metallic oxide such as BaO, CaO and CuO are mixed in a prescribed metallic element ratio. Then, this powdery mixture is compacted, and the green compact is wrapped with a gold foil and charged into a hot isostatic pressing device or a closed pressure vessel, etc. The green compact is burned at about 100-1000atm total pressure in an oxygen alone of >=20atm oxygen partial pressure or an mixed gas atmosphere of the oxygen and an inert gas and at about 700-950 deg.C burning temp. for about 3hr, and a high quality mercury based oxide superconductor expressed by a composition formula of HgBa2 CuO4+d , HgBa, CaCu2 O6+d and HgBa2 Ca2 Cu3 O8+d , etc., are obtained. |
