PURPOSE: To provide an ink jet printer storing an ink amt. corresponding to each ink cartridge and dispensing with the re-detection of an ink residual amt. to be enhanced in efficiency. CONSTITUTION: An identification means 5 having a non-volatile memory 3 built therein is provided to each ink cartridge 1 and the identification data of the ink cartridge 1 is stored in the nonvolatile memory 3 and the amt. of the recording ink in the ink cartridge 1 is stored corresponding to the identification data of the ink cartridge 1 and, when the ink cartridge 1 is mounted on a printer main body, the amt. of the recording ink corresponding to the identification data of the ink cartridge 1 is read from a memory means. |
