The accessory has a reinforcing support (2), e.g. of injection-moulded plastic designed to receive vehicle equipment, and a trim layer (3) made from separate components (4, 5) with inner surfaces fixed to the support. The trim layer components are made from a plastic foam, e.g. expanded polypropylene or polyoxyphenylene/polystyrene, with appropriate mechanical strength and resistance to ageing, covered with a skin (7). Each element is fixed to the support by adhesive, welding or fixings which are compatible with the materials used. In addition, the support and/or the trim components have hollow portions (2b) which act as ducts.
