Multifunctional device for extra-renal purificn. by extracorporeal circulation of blood comprises a semi-permeable separator component (A) having the following characteristics: (1) absorption capacity at least 600 ng, 30 mg and 300 mg for, respectively, tumour necrosis factor alpha ; the D component of complement and interleukin-1 beta ; (2) urea clearance at least 20 ml/min. for flow rates of blood, dialysis liq. and ultrafiltration of about 100, 33 and 0 ml/min., respectively; (3) ultrafiltration coefft. in presence of blood over 5 ml per (h mmHg); (4) the vol. of device compartment intended for blood circulation is not over 150 ml. Also new are hollow fibres for use in the device having internal diam. 180-260 mu ; consisting of a homogeneous and symmetrical polyelectrolyte hydrogel; having hydraulic permeability over 5 ml/hr./mmHg/sq.m.; membrane resistance to urea below 200 min./cm, and adsorption capacity for at least one of TNF alpha , component D and IL-1 beta over 125 pg, 6 mu g and 60 pg, respectively per m. |
