Assembly heating element and heat diffusing plate

A heating element (4), (7) is placed against a heat diffusing plate (4). The heating element may have a circular, triangular or other cross section and the diffusing plate is made from a metal having good malleability at moderate temperatures such as an aluminium alloy. A hot heading tool operating at a speed of at least 0.3 m/s and using temperatures between 400 and 500 degrees Celsius and pressures of 250 Newtons/mm2 is applied to the heating element and diffusing plate. The diffusing plate metal partially envelops the heating element to produce a robust bond.
