Breaking up large, high strength radioactive bodies

A process for cutting or breaking up biologically harmful solid bodies, such as the solid melt or lava arising from a nuclear reactor core meltdown accident, comprises remotely accessing the body using a robotic vehicle which sends back information to a remote, safely positioned, analysis unit. The analysis unit uses the captured data to determine a matrix of points on the three dimensional surface of the solid body at which to position explosive (pyrotechnic) charges, in order to ensure the body is broken up as required. An explosive charge net is then prepd. which can then be put over the solid body by the robotic vehicle so that the charges will be in the correct positions. The charges are then remotely set off.
