<p>A method for preparing lactam by means of a vapour phase reaction between an aliphatic aminonitrile and water in the presence of a solid catalyst, wherein the catalyst is an alumina having a specific surface area of at least 10 m2/g, as determined by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. Aliphatic lactams, such as epsilon-caprolactam in particular, are basic compounds for preparing polyamides (polyamide 6 from caprolactam).</p> |
