Kaolin is used as catalyst is the batch prodn. of polyoxybutyleneopolyoxy-alkylene glycols (I) by: (a) copolymerisation of THF with 1,2-alkylene oxides (II) in the presence of 0.5-10 mole% reactive H cpds. (III) w.r.t. THF on a protonised and calcined alumino-silicate catalyst; (b) alkaline hydrolysis of ester gps. in the copolymer if necessary; and (c) introduction of (II) into the reaction mixt. so that the (II) concn. in the reaction mixt. is kept constant and below 1 wt.% during polymerisation.
