According to the invention, a noise reduction method is proposed for a low-noise track element comprising two rails (1a, 1b) and a number of sleepers (2) which are laid on a ballast (4) spaced along and at right angles to the rails (1a, 1b) and on which the rails (1a, 1b) are secured by securing elements (3). This is to be achieved by the provision of sound-absorbing material (5) in the semi-enclosed space formed by the ballast (4) and the rails (1a, 1b). Particular embodiments facilitate maintenance of a track element of this type and allow unrestricted movement of vehicle wheels (7) on the rails (1a, 1b).
