Magnetic rail with self-stability for moving suspended load

The magnetic rail is used for generating a variable magnetic field vertically to the movement direction of a load held in suspension. The rail is coupled to a conductor (4) carrying current parallel to the movement direction. The rail has a series of sections (11), each one comprising two oblong lower pole elements (13,14) which form a south and north pole respectively. One of the poles has a gap with a cross-section diverging in the hover direction in order to generate convex flux lines of increasing length in this direction, whereas the other pole has a gap of converging cross-section in the same direction, generating concave flux lines of decreasing length.
