The post comprises a pointed T-section anchor (1) with an upper striking plate (7). A rectangular sleeve (2) attached parallel to the anchor guides a tubular shaft (3) with a baseplate (5) and a compression spring (6). The shaft is passed up the sleeve to compress the spring against the footplate which is then secured in place by screws. When the post is driven by blows on the striking plate the mass inertia of the shaft is absorbed by the spring. The sleeve assembly behaves as a buffer.
