Described is a machine for forming, from packaging material, a tubular container for liquids, the machine having a first device (19, 20) for holding a blank (3) securely on a mandrel (4), a second device for placing at least part of the surface of the blank (3) against the exterior surface of the mandrel (4) and a third device for wrapping the rest of the surface of the blank (3) round the mandrel (4) and fixing the edges of the sleeve obtained. In order to ensure a high throughput and, in particular, to ensure that each blank (3) is actually formed into a sleeve and closed to give a liquidtight seal, the invention calls for four mandrels (4) to be mounted on the mandrel carrier of a mandrel wheel. The main axle (7) of the wheel is mounted at its ends in two support plates (13b) fixed parallel to each other a certain distance apart, the inwards-facing sides of the plates having inner control grooves (14) and outer control grooves and the mandrels (4) moving intermittently between the plates. Moving along the continuous-loop control grooves (14) are cam followers (16) designed to control the devices (19, 20) which hold the blank (3), place it against the mandrel and wrap it round the mandrel. |
