Drive for valve mechanism in IC engine

The valve drive comprises a cams mounted on a cam shaft with integral component between the valve and the cam forming or being part of a cam follower. In a first operating position a section (2) of the cam follower (1) is held in its bottom dead centre position to create the maximum valve lift. The section is coupled to a further part (3) of the cam follower. In a second operating position the coupled section of the cam follower determines the area, R, between the maximum lift, Hmax, of the valve where the valve velocity is equal to zero and the minimum valve lift, Hmin, where valve velocity approaches zero.
