A contact for an electrical connector is characterized by a mass of solder material (20) having a predetermined volume that is reflowed onto a predetermined localized portion of the tail (14). The tail may be generally linear or bent to define a concave portion thereon. If bent, the predetermined volume of solderable material is localized in the concave portion of the tail. Such a bent contact may be used advantageously with a connector mountable to a substrate in either a straddle mount (30) or in a surface mount (40) configuration.
