System and method for cluster recognition

A target or object recognition system is provided which operates on an array of images of a scene in which there are targets or objects. The system includes an automatic target recognition unit (20) and a cluster recognizer (22). The automatic target recognition unit (20) recognizes possible targets (objects) in each of said images and provides each possible target (object) with a cluster grade. The cluster recognizer (22) receives a list of the possible targets (objects) from the automatic target recognition unit (20) and identifies clusters of possible targets (objects) which are located within a small area and which all have cluster grades above a predefined threshold. <IMAGE>
