S-carboxymethylcysteine lysine salt monohydrate for the preparation of a medicament having mucolytic, bronchosecretolytic and antibronchospastic activities, and a process for the preparation thereof, characterized in that L(R)-S-carboxymethylcysteine is reacted with a L(S)-lysine aqueous solution, the obtained solution is diluted with ethanol and the product is crystallized by stirring.
