PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To place a nozzle of a local fire extinguishing system at the most appropriate specified distance for extinguishing the fire of an object. SOLUTION: This fire extinguishing system for ship which is installed in an engine room of a ship of a large size is provided with a spray nozzle 3 in a rest position near the ceiling surface or the wall surface 11 so that other devices can be operated and a transferring mechanism 4 for transferring the spray nozzle 3 to a fire extinguishing position 3' at a specified distance above from the object at the time of fire extinguishment. The transferring mechanism is actuated by the pressure of an extinguishing fluid supplied to the spray nozzle 3 as a driving source.
