摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a renewable security mechanism which is reliable to a contents provider. SOLUTION: A custodian applet 18 is embedded in digital contents 10, and appropriate encryption processes are employed prior to sending the contents over a distribution channel 16. Integrity testing stations 24 examine the contents at plural locations along the distribution channel 16, and determine whether or not the integrity of the digital contents has been tempered with, by using the embedded applet 18. When tampering is detected, the testing stations 24 notifies the contents provider 12 of the occurrence of tampering, whereupon the contents provider 12 updates the security mechanism 14 to prevent further breach.</p>
