<p>The video camera (40) is carried by a robot at a known distance (Z) from the plane of the end of the surface (10) under inspection, e.g. an adaptor (10) on the spherical cover (20) of a nuclear reactor pressure vessel. "Closed" (concave) and "open" (substantially planar) edges (1a,1b) of a weld are distinguishable at the distance (D) of convergence of the camera. A synthetic image is computed by CAD software as a solid model including the curves of intersection of the weld with the cover and adaptor.</p> |
