PURPOSE: To provide an industrial bactericidal and bacteriostatic agent containing 4,5-dichloro-1,2-dithiol-3-one, a bromine-containing polyacetoxyalkylene derivative and methylene bisthiocyanate and having increased and durable bactericidal effect. CONSTITUTION: This bactericidal and bacteriostatic agent contains (a) 4,5- dichloro-1,2-dithiol-3-one, (b) a bromine-containing polyacetoxyalkylene derivative (e.g. 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-diacetoxypropane) and (c) methylene bisthiocyanate. The amount of the component (b) is 0.1-50 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. of the component (a) and that of the component (c) is 0.01-2.5 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. of the sum of the components (a) and (b). The bactericidal effect is increased and maintained and the proliferation suppressing period is prolonged by the addition of the component (c) to an industrial bactericide containing the components (a) and (b). The agent is especially useful as a bactericidal and bacteriostatic agent for water for papermaking process in paper and pulp industry in which slime damage exerts direct adverse effect on the product. |
