PURPOSE: To efficiently remove nitrate ions by solar rays by adding a photolytic catalyst obtained by including a semiconductor excited by light in a cation exchange laminar compd. to an aq. soln. containing nitrate ions and irradiating the aq. soln. with light. CONSTITUTION: A photolytic catalyst obtained by including a semiconductor excited by light in a cation or anion exchange laminar compd. is added to an aq. soln. containing nitrate ions and this aq. soln. is irradiated with light to remove the nitrate ions in the aq. soln. At this time the aq. soln. pref. contains alcohol and the semiconductor is represented by Cd1-x Znx S (0<=x<=1.0) and, as the cation exchange laminar compd., a compd. such as H2 Ti4 O9 or H4 Nb6 O17 is used. As the anion exchange laminar compd., [M(II)1-y M(III)y (OH)2 ] (CO3 )y/2 [wherein M(II) is Mg<2+> or Zn<2+> ; M(III) is A<3+> , Cr<3+> or Fe<3+> and y is 0.17<=y<=0.33] is used. |
