PURPOSE: To provide an extra-discal intervertebral prosthesis which surely supports intervertebra and has no possibility of being broken and precisely controls bending and extension of the spine. CONSTITUTION: An axtra-discal intervertebral prosthesis has a completely or partially closed slender main body 1. The main body 1 has a compression chamber 1e and an elastic block 2 is fixed on one end side of the chamber 1e. The free surface of the elastic block 2 is brought into contact with a ball joint 3 cooperating with a fixing means 4 hooked on the spine. On the other hand, the main body 1 is directly or indirectly connected with the fixing means 4 embedded in another spine.
