PURPOSE: To easily recover metal copper from the copper oxide through reduction included in the molten slag formed at the time of refining blister copper from the matte formed is smelting of copper sulfide-contg. ore by immersing metal iron into this fused slag. CONSTITUTION: The molten slag is formed from the matte consisting of copper sulfide and iron sulfide by smelting the sulfide ore contg. Cu and Fe in the form of sulfide. The matte is subjected to oxidation refining by flowing air therein in the molten state, by which the molten slag consisting essentially of the blister copper of >98.5% Cu, FeO and Fe2 O3 and contg. CaO is formed. Since the molten slag contains Cu2 O oxidized and formed at the time of oxidization refining of the matte in the molten slag, the molten slag 42 is put into a vessel 15 and the metal iron 17 is immersed therein and is brought into contact with the molten slag 42. The Cu nobler than Fe is reduced from the Cu2 O into Cu and Fe 17 baser than Cu is oxidized and enters the inside of the molten slag 42. The reduction-formed metal Cu 12 is stored in a pouring basic 19 formed in the bottom of the vessel 15 and is then recovered.
