PURPOSE: To provide a camera capable of easily taking an underwater photograph by exactly performing automatic focusing not only in air but also in water. CONSTITUTION: A reflected light beam from an object is received by an AF part 2 and the distance to the object is calculated by a CPU 1 based on the output of the AF part 2. The fact that a camera is located in water is optically decided by an underwater detecting part 4 and, when the camera is located in water, the turbidity of ambient water is estimated by means of a transparency detecting part 3. The focusing position of a photographing lens in a focusing part 7 is determined based on the output of the CPU 1 and the output of the transparency detecting part 3 when the fact that the camera is located in water is decided by the underwater detecting part 4. |
