摘要 PURPOSE: To reduce the size and weight while ensuring high heat dissipation effect by disposing a semiconductor laser such that the irradiating direction of laser light intersects the optical axis of an objective lens perpendicularly thereby simplifying the optical path and decreasing the number of optical components, and to obtain an optical head suitable for high speed access by eliminating the translation supporting. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor laser 32 is disposed at one end of an optical disc not corresponding to the tracking direction of an optical disc such that the irradiating direction of laser light substantially intersects the optical axis of an objective lens perpendicularly. Since the laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser 32 is introduced to an objective lens 25a through single right angle reflection, as compared with a conventional head requiring two times of right angle reflection, the number of components can be decreased in the optical system. When the end part of the optical head body 25 is fixed to one end part of a heat dissipation plate having the other end part 30 extending oppositely to the surface of the optical disc, high heat dissipation effect can be achieved. Furthermore, since the optical head body 25 is supported rotatably in the tracking direction by an optical head support 24, vibration due to translation supporting is eliminated thus realizing an optical head suitable for high speed access.
