PURPOSE: To obtain an ink for ink jet recording which can give a high-printing- quality and high-grade color image freed from feathering and color bleeding even on plain paper. CONSTITUTION: This ink essentially consists of a colorant, a penetrant selected from among a surfactant in the critical micelle concentration or below, a monohydric alcohol and a polyhydric alcohol derivative, an alginate, at least one surfactant selected among fluorine-containing and silicone surfactants each of which satisfies the relationship: T=D/D0 ×100 (wherein T is the tendency toward spreading; D is the diameter of a liquid drop existing two minutes after a 0.05wt.% aqueous solution is dropped on paper; and D0 is the diameter of a liquid drop existing two minutes later when ion-exchanged water is dropped on paper), a wetting agent, and water. |
