FIELD: electric prospecting of small depths, engineering-geological examinations, preparation of areas for exploitation of gravel deposits, reveal of the center of frozen ground, karst, etc. SUBSTANCE: the method of geoelectric prospecting uses two parallel feeding line grounds spaced at a distance shorter than or equal to their length and connected to the terminals of an AC generator; the method consists in tracing on the area between the line grounds with the aid of a short two-electrode receiving line (search circuit), isolines tangent to the minor axis of the ellipse of electric field polarization; one terminal of the generator is additionally connected via two insulated wires to the two opposite ends of the first nearest line ground, and the other terminal is connected to the ends of the second line ground via the wires located on the opposite side of the plane table; the direction of the section of isoline is determined according to the minimum of voltage at the search circuit; voltage at this circuit is measured; then the search circuit is turned through a right angle and voltage is measured again; according to the results of these measurements the relation between the major and minor axes of the ellipse of electric field polarization in the given point of the day surface is found; and according to the charts of isolines and the values of the above relation, one can judge the distribution of the region of high and low conductivity within the plane table.
