The food slicing apparatus (20) comprises a tube (25) through which the vegetables pass. Extending through the tube (25) are four sets of blades (60a-d,63a-d) all at the same acute angle to the path of the vegetables. The blades in the first and second sets lie in parallel planes and the blades in the third and fourth sets also lie in parallel planes which are perpendicular to the planes containing the first and second sets. The angles of the blades in the first and second sets are of opposite polarity and the angles of the blades in the third and fourth sets are of opposite polarity. The leading portion of one blade and the trailing portion of the adjacent blade overlap.
