The procedure consists of clearing the surface to give access to the material to be reinforced and, if necessary, breaking up the material exposed, applying a regular layer of pre-cut fibrous material, and mixing it with the soil at a rate of 0.01-5 per cent by weight. The added fibrous material is of glass or rock wool fibres in bundles of 3-500 mm, produced by centrifuging and made into nodules by passing through a perforated plate. The fibres are applied in a regular layer on the ground by a machine of the type used to spread powdered materials on roads esp. to prevent icing, e.g. a salt spreader. The machine has a mixer (2) such as a disc or coulter plough or rotary cultivator. |
