<p>A depixelator (32) for improving the image generated by a pixelated image generator (12), using a non-periodic optic element, is provided. By providing a non-periodic optic element, artifacts such as moire patterns generated by periodic devices such as crossed-gratings, can be reduced or eliminated. The optic device (12, 16, 18) preferably includes a plurality of randomly spaced and/or sized dimples or specks (42a-42f) for diffracting a substantial portion of light from pixels into interpixel regions, with the depth of the specks preferably smoothly varying across the surface.</p> |
