<p>A system for generating a comb of equally spaced light modes has a light source (2) for generating light at a carrier frequency. The light is transmitted to a coupling (7) which is resonant at the carrier frequency. Light is then transmitted from the coupling cavity (7) to a main cavity (10) which contains an electro-optic modulator (5) for modulating light within the main cavity (10) at a modulation frequency to produce a multiplicity of sidebands. Whilst the main cavity (10) is arranged to be resonant at the carrier and sideband frequencies, the coupling cavity (7) is essentially resonant at the carrier frequency but not at the sideband frequencies. The output of the main cavity (10) is a high repetition rate pulse train.</p> |
