Foot operated display cursor control unit for use in surgery

An aid for use by surgeons, particularly in carrying out none invasive surgery, involves the use of video images of the area being worked upon that are displayed on a monitor. The images from a probe are computer processed and specific areas on the screen can be selected for image enlargement. The location of these areas is obtained by movement of a screen cursor. The cursor is moved by a unit operated by the foot of the surgeon thus leaving his hands free. The unit has a roller 56 that is rotated and moved axially to cause sensors 72-78 to provide X and Y axis commands. The unit also includes two foot operated switches 58, 60 for other functions.
