Bone preparing device for prosthetic implants

The template (1) has a slot (11) in it which corresponds to the contours of the implant to be inserted in the femur. Holes (12) are provided through which pins pass to fix the template in position. A handle allows easy positioning of the template on the bone. The milling cutter (2) has a milling head (21) whose width corresponds to the slot in this template. A collar (22) determines the depth to which the milling head can penetrate. Once the milling has been done an insert can be secured in the hole which has a central sleeve corresponding to the diameter of the shaft of the implant.
