Chemical analysis of contents of fully closed scrap container

The object (4A or 4B) under examination is placed in an explosion-proof test chamber (2) under a screwed-down cover (6). Gas is extracted from the chamber through an automatic closure valve (10) by a vacuum pump (14). The results of gas analysis (18) and pressure measurement (16) are supplied to a controller (20) which operates the pump and valve. The pressure is reduced slowly and in small steps while the gas leaving the pump is analysed either constantly or on successive samples.
