HEADGEAR MOUNTABLE PROTECTIVE FACE SHIELD

The present invention provides a lightweight headgear mountable protective face shield (18) capable of protecting substantially the entire face of a human wearer from ultraviolet radiation. The face shield (18) comprises an articulated shielding means to be positioned in blocking relationship to the wearer's face. The shielding means comprises a plurality of segments (26, 28, 30) extending across the wearer's face, the ends of which are preferably pivotally conncected to hinge plates (52, 54) positioned at either side of the wearer's head. The hinge plates (52, 54) are attached to a securing mechanism (20) which secures the face shield (18) to an article of headgear. In a preferred embodiment, the face shield (18) is detachably secured to the forward projecting bill (14) of a baseball style cap (12) by a securing mechanism (20) comprising a pair of jaws (22, 24) between which the bill (14) is secured by clamping.
