<p>A blind fastening method and device for use in clamping a component (21) to a support plate (22), in which the fastener device (20) is taken through aligned openings in the component and in the support plate, and comprises: a slotted sleeve (38); an apertured sleeve head (24) at one end of the sleeve (38); a threaded fastener portion (25) which can be taken through the apertured sleeve head (24) and the sleeve (38); a tightening fastener head (26) for tightening the fastener portion (25); and a diverging sleeve-expanding head (27) mounted on the fastener portion (25) and engageable with the opposite end (28) of the sleeve to expand the latter radially outwardly to anchor the sleeve; in which the sleeve head (24) has an off-set formation engageable by a tool (30) which prevents rotation of the sleeve head (24) while the fastener head (26) is being tightened. This provides a primary deformation action, and in a preferred embodiment a secondary deformation action is provided so as to obtain a stronger clamping action, by means of an axially compressible weakened portion (36) in the wall of the sleeve (35) and located adjacent to the sleeve head (24).</p> |
