Cooling or chilling apparatus (10) for cooling or chilling beverage containers (37) such as bottles or cans including a chamber (13), a chilling liquid (36) in the chamber (13) cooled by a refrigeration unit (19) and coils (34) and an inwardly collapsible U-shaped support member (26) for supporting containers in the liquid (36). A flexible liquid impervious membrane in the form of a plastics bag (29) surrounds the U-shaped member (26) and containers (37) supported thereon, the bag (29) preventing the containers (37) coming into direct contact with the liquid (36) but permitting the liquid (36) to cool the containers (37) and the contents thereof.
