A vented baffle system for use in a clarifier tank having a bottom, a periphery and a substantially vertical peripheral wall is formed by a plurality of baffles mounted on the peripheral wall. Each baffle includes a panel member (10) that slopes downwardly from the peripheral wall towards the interior of the tank and the tank bottom, and terminates at a lower edge spaced above the tank bottom. A lateral end (16) of the baffle carries an end bracket (18) securable to the peripheral wall for supporting the panel member. One or more of the baffles are provided with a relief valve means (24). The resulting system provides a vented baffle system in which pressure exerted by the build up of gases below the baffle may be alleviated.
