An insert and rotate edge card connector has a latching member 7 which includes a body portion held in a preloaded state within an end of the elongated connector housing. The latching member includes an arcuate portion 16 and a pair of retention arms 8 which extend over portion 16. When inserted into a contact holding slot of the connector and then rotated, the card 4 engages straight or curved cam surfaces 12 of the retention arms, to move the latch member aside. The preloading returns the latch so that the arcuate portion 16 engages a notch in the edge of the card, and the retention arms 8 engage the surface 4b of the card to latch it in place. The latch is withdrawn by a manual lever 14. A similar latching member 7 is provided at the opposite end of the connector housing. The card 4 is held parallel to a mother board by this connector.
